Description
Score: 93 Country: California Region: Sonoma Issue: Nov 15, 1999 Remarkably complex and concentrated, with a dark, plush, focused core of ripe plum, black cherry, blackberry and spice. Turns rich on the long finish. Best Now. 4,100 cases made. JL In my barrel tastings, the Simi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve was among the more forward, opulently-styled 1995s. This attractive wine, which has the potential to be outstanding, exhibits a deep ruby/purple color, and a friendly, open-knit, spicy, sweet blackcurrant nose that borders on jamminess. Pure, with a multi-layered texture, excellent concentration, sweet, plush, fat fruit, decent acidity, and a long, lusty finish, this Cabernet is reminiscent of a deep, rich, right bank Bordeaux made primarily from Merlot rather than Cabernet Sauvignon. (Tasted in barrel.)
