Description
I assume the 2012 Proprietary Red Vintage Reserve comes from the winery’s finest lots. It is no wimpy wine at 14.9% natural alcohol and appears to be made from Bordeaux varietals. It demonstrates that like Napa, Sonoma can also make exquisite, full-throttle, multidimensional, big, rich red wines. This dense purple-colored effort possesses oodles of blackberry and cassis fruit, hints of charcoal and background oak, attractive glycerin and a full-bodied opulence. It is still primary, but offers beautiful purity, density and full-bodied power. Give it another 1-2 years to develop additional nuances, and drink it over the next two decades

The Vintage Reserve represents the pinnacle of what Gundlach Bundschu produces each year. In 2012, Mother Nature blessed us with an exemplary growing year for great Bordeaux-style wines on Rhinefarm. A little more feminine and finesse driven than some of her peers to the east, the 2012 Vintage Reserve is a powerful Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine that provides the muscle you would expect from a flagship wine with the elegance, polish and refinement that can only come from a cool climate. Bold, seductive aromas waft out of the glass to greet the olfactory receptors with chocolate-covered blueberries and beautiful notes of violets and lavender, intermingled with the warm aromatic
