Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Sycamore Vineyards, a blend of 89.8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4.5%
Merlot, 2.8% Cabernet Franc and 2.9% Petit Verdot, opens with youthfully subtle, very primary black currant and black cherry
notes with hints of eucalypt, fertile soil, underbrush and new leather. Medium to full-bodied.
Critic tasting note: (2014 vintage) “Sycamore Vineyard is a 24-acre site located in Rutherford, Napa Valley, up against the Mayacamas Range on sloping, fertile, clay loam soils. 2014 is a highly regarded vintage and one of several to be debated from 2010 through 2016 as to which might be the best. The blend is 90 percent cabernet sauvignon, 4 percent merlot, 3 percent cabernet franc, and 3 percent petit verdot, aged 28 months in French oak (61 percent new). Still youthful, this dark-coloured red has notes that suggests it may be too much of a good thing, but the rest of the wine is managed well from its freshness and red fruit to its rich, minty oaky, spicy, long linear palate. Tobacco and dense, round tannins fill out the finish of a wine that will cellar effortlessly through 2030. (Anthony Gismondi).” – 93/100, Gismondi on Wine
