Wine Advocate #204 Dec 2012 Antonio Galloni RATED 93 Drink: 2017 – 2030 The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is huge, but all the elements are in place. The balance of fruit, acidity and structure is simply impeccable for a such a big wine. Layers of savory herbs, mocha, cloves, black currants and melted road tar meld together as the 2010 opens up in the glass. The big, mountain tannins are very much present, so readers will have be patient. At the same time, the 2010 appears to have considerable potential, even if it is a bit a of a brute today. I am deeply intrigued by this fascinating effort. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2030. Winemaker Keith Emerson continues to do stellar work for Knighton Family Vineyards. Tel. (707) 942-8386 Importer(s): Knighton Family Vineyards, (707) 942-8386, www.knightonfamilyvineyards.com The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is the most interesting of the three vintages I tasted. Freshly cut flowers, mint, licorice, cassis and blackberries are some of the notes that flow from this racy, opulent Cabernet Sauvignon. Hints of espresso and flowers linger on the finish. This is a very promising effort from Knighton Family Vineyards. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. I was impressed with the three wines I tasted from Knighton Family Vineyards. These Cabernets generally include 4-5% Petit Verdot and are aged in 100% new Taransaud oak barrels. Blue/black fruits, menthol, licorice and asphalt all jump from the glass in the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Knighton Family Vineyards Reserve. Powerful and structured, the 2010 is distinctive and superb today. The massive tannins are going to need a few years to soften, but all of the elements are in the right place. This is a fabulous showing from Knighton. The 2010 is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot.RATED 94 Each vintage since our 2007 ‘Inaugural’ demonstrates the unique character of the site – the mountain setting at 1500 feet and the volcanic soils on the side of Mt. St. Helena. All of our wine is made at the state-of-the-art facility at Vineyard 29 under the watchful eye of our winemaker Keith Emerson. Keith continues to build his acclaim with such labels as Vineyard 29, Robert Craig, Gundlach Bundschu, and, of course, his own labels Emerson Brown and Sonria. Our current release, the 2010 Reserve, was reviewed in Vinous, November 2013: Blue/black fruits, menthol, licorice and asphalt all jump from the glass in the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Knighton Family Vineyards Reserve. Rating: 94 The 2009 Reserve, was reviewed by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate with these notes: Our goal is produce nothing but the finest wine the vineyards can produce. Quality is our utmost concern – not quantity. We produced less than 100 cases in each of 2007 and 2008. We determine our offering inventory totally dependent upon the quality we can achieve but don’t plan more than 150 cases in the foreseeable future. Our first priority is to reserve wine for those loyal customers that have purchased it in the past and members of our wine mailing list. Due to the limited amount of wine we reserve the ability to limit the amount any one customer can purchase.
