Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar Review
Rated 92
More saturated ruby-red color. Exotic, slightly jammy aromas of raspberry liqueur, clove and roast coffee. Thick, sweet and lush, with a much more silky texture than the Tofanelli bottling. Liqueur-like, very spicy finish features ripe tannins and excellent length. Unusually aromatic thanks to the cool year. The vines here are sometimes picked as early as mid-August; in ’98 the harvest was in early October, the latest on record for this site, which has had just three owners since 1894. (May/June 2000)
